Volunteers who served in the South Pacific or North Africa from 1966 to 1996 need help from RPCVs living in France to access benefits.
Some South Pacific RPCVs may be eligible for money from the French government, which is offering compensation to those who suffered adverse health effects as a result of its nuclear tests. Defense Minister Herve Morin recently offered 10 million Euros to victims of the tests in French Polynesia and Algeria.
Some RPCVs speak no or limited French and are having a hard time contacting the Defense Ministry.
RPCVs can contact the French Minister of Defense by emailing pensions@sga.defense.gouv.fr or calling 011 33 810 007 025. The office is open 9 to 12 and then 1:30 to 4:30, Central European Time. Information can be sent to RPCV Michael Driscoll at mldriscoll@adspec-spokane.com.
