As Peace Corps Week gets into full swing, preparations continue in advance of our March 4th National
Day of Action in support of the Peace Corps.
Here's an update.
Specific Day of Action
Requests - Update
In the House of Representatives, the offices of RPCV Congressmen Sam Farr (D-CA) and Chris Shays (R-CT) are finalizing a "Dear Colleague" letter urging support for robust Peace Corps spending in the upcoming (Fiscal Year 2009) budget. Additionally, Congressman Farr is finalizing authorization legislation that would propose significant funding increases over the next 3 - 4 years.
Senate, the offices of RPCV Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN) are also preparing a "Dear Colleague" letter urging increased funding for the Peace Corps.
We expect these actionable items will begin circulating late next week, and will serve as the basis for your specific requests when sending emails or making phone calls on March 4th.
NPCA Hill Meetings Set
the Stage for Action
NPCA's advocacy staff is holding and scheduling meetings with congressional offices to discuss Peace Corps funding and urge support for the upcoming "Dear Colleague" letters. See the end of this message for a list of meetings currently held or planned.
